Our Church
St Peter's and All Saints Church
Our Church is central to our school life. We attend monthly services at the church and also work closely with the church community to support each other in any way we can. Our Year 6 leaders and Spiritual Detectives regularly attend church to help them live out their values of community and respect by supporting them throughout the year, such as: cleaning the church, running a stall at the church jumble sale, creating scarecrows for the church village trail, decorating the church with their prayers and work they have been doing in school and inviting the church family to support them in their learning each term. We work closely together as one family.
Father Daniel
Father Daniel is the vicar of Malborough, Galmpton, Hope Cove and Salcombe. He acts as the chaplain to the school and is regularly invited to give input into classes and run assemblies. As someone who grew up in South Devon, he is a real enthusiast for the area, having returned here in 2008 after holding ministry posts in Kent, London and Aberdeen. Before ministry, he worked in computing, teaching adults IT at ECDL and NVQ level. Much of his ministry has had a focus on education and school work, and recently he has started a part-time research degree in theology and cosmology. He is an enthusiastic fan of science fiction works, including the works of C S Lewis, the author of the Narnia Chronicles. His dream man shed would have a Police Telephone Box entrance! He oversees a special intern community based in Malborough for young adults exploring ministry and vocation, who all visit us regularly to support our theology lessons. He is married to Frances, and they have two children, Nathaniel and Francesca, who are both at Kingsbridge Community College. They can often be found as a family on North Sands beach chasing their black Labrador Rory.
Words from Father Daniel:
"One of the most enjoyable things about being the vicar here is working with Malborough School. The enthusiasm for learning is infectious and anyone going to say, religious studies classes, will find an amazing depth of theological investigation. This is a school that takes its Christian ethos very seriously and staff and pupils invest heavily in it. The Church-School partnership can be seen in the wonderful plays, services and assemblies that pupils involve themselves and deliver in the parish Church. Well done Malborough Primary!"
Mr Trevor Becker
Trevor works closely within the churches in our parish and is a valued member of our school family. He is the church organist and provides us with our music at each monthly service. Trevor also joins us for our half-termly Ethos meetings and supports our school team in planning our hymns for Collective Worship, taking the time to think carefully about the meaning of the words within each song and how this links to our vision, values and celebrations within the Christian calendar. Trevor also volunteers on behalf of our church to attend our Tuesday Key Stage Collective Worship where he teaches the children hymns and leads our prayers.
